People at Pennsic LOVE their Garb, their parties, their beautifully arranged portable medieval castles!    For 50 weeks of the year, most people are stuck in clothing that just plain has no SOUL, slide up and down clogged freeways through rush hour, live in condos with a Neo-Fascist owners association.  For two weeks, they have a place to wear absolutely glorious stuff, carouse, sing, drink, wench, carry medieval weaponry, charge into battle, and have a drawbridge with guards if it suits them!  These folks are having SUCH good time!  If I remember correctly, this is an executive secretary, a history professor, and a manager for a non-profit foundation.

I was called out to do a big henna party for one of the biggest "houses". I had to go through a gate guarded by 4 knights in armor, all sorts of folks doing the M'Lord and M'Lady thing.  I'd hennaed the queen earlier.  Her personna was 16th century Persian and I did her hands while another lady did her hair.  I did bonafide  16th century Persian patterns from Erfan Mahlodji's Hennaria.  Her hair got done in an upsweep with bouncing moussed dangling blonde curls. I keep trying to remember if I've ever seen twirly blonde "Prom Queen" upswept curls in any 16th century Persian manuscript, but ..... um ...... Sure.  They worked me hard through the henna party, about 5 hours nonstop henna with a Coleman lantern on each side for light. Battery powered lanterns are a little less scary to work near. but provide less light.  The ones with the mantle and propane get very HOT and that light is intense!  I was always a little uneasy that I might knock one over or burn myself.  To have enough light to work through a summer midnight, you have to have 2 of them RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.
