The Mysterious World of the Carrot Bag

How to use a carrot bag without a metal tip:
I prefer to use a carrot bag with the tip cut off, but without a metal tip.  I like the delicacy and versatility of that line. Some people find it too hard to control. I can cut the tip any size I want, so if I want big lines, I just cut the tip open larger.  Clogs are never a problem with cut tips; you just pinch them out.

It’s important to cut the tip at the right angle, slanting away from the sealed edge!  A clean cut is crucial to a perfect line. A single edge razor blade makes a very clean cut.  Cut against a firm surface, like an old CD case.

Fill the carrot bag:

Put two soupspoons full of paste into your carrot bag and squish the paste down to the tip.  Then, roll the top down.

Hold the carrot bag like this, and press gently with your palm, not your fingers.

Adjust the tip cut if it’s too small, cutting off a sliver at a time. I get my finest lines with a carrot bag.

If you get a squiggly line, you’re squeezing too hard, or your paste is too thick.  To get a perfect line, match how fast you draw your line to how hard you squeeze.  Most people squeeze too hard and draw too slow.

If you want bigger lines, just sliver off a little more of the tip.
