The Reverend Bunny's Secret Henna Diaries

In Medieval Spain, women wore henna.  Manuscripts from the 12 through the 15th centuries show Moorish, Christian, and Jewish women wearing henna.  Andalusian love poetry praised the beauty of  women's hennaed hands and feet.  The Arabic word in this pattern is "affection", and the patterns are adapted from 14th century Spanish art.

The henna powder used here is from Castle Art and Imports.  I mixed the henna powder with lemon juice and let it sit for 24 hours at 68 F to make henna paste.  Then I mixed 1/10 oz of Tea Tree oil and 6 drops of Geranium oil into 3 oz of henna paste.  I let that sit in a plastic ziploc bag, with all the air presssed out for  48 hours at 68 F.  I applied the henna to Adrianne's leg at 8 pm, and sealed very lightly with New skin spray.  Adrianne warmed her henna several times during the evening with a garment steamer and space heater, and let the paste fall off.  She rinsed off the last of the henna the next morning.    This photograph was taken 48 hours after the henna application.
